Top Law Schools

Not sure what kind of law I want to go into, but hopefully big law in NYC. Got 1/4 tuition at Wash U, nothing at GW, 3/4 at Cardozo, and nothing from Brooklyn yet but prob 3/4-full tuition. Also waiting to hear from WL from Fordham, so I guess Fordham PT is also an option.

If you want NYC biglaw, I'm inclined to say Fordham, perhaps GW if you're stuck in PT at Fordham. But I have no inclinations for biglaw, so there are plenty of better informed people as to that.

WUSTL because their reach is increasing slowly but steadily, you got money from them, and you can always fall back on St. Louis if things go badly. GW and Fordham PT are also credited.

WUSTL. It is just breaking into the big leagues. It stands a shot at NYC big law and DC big law as well as a great shot at Chicago big law. The data says the school is getting better every year and its reputation should be higher than it is now in 3 years by the time you graduate. The campus/building is beautiful, the students laid back. Love the school.

Otherwise, GW is a great school.

I voted GWU cause I like the school but the 210k in debt you will have when you graduate (assuming you take out debt for sticker and COL) is a major turn off IMO. That said, dozo is a no go, Brooklyn if you want to doc review for the rest of your life. Fordham PT is also a good choice cause you can work and make $ to reduce the level of debt. WUSTL is a great school too (but then you have to live in Washington!).

Protip: STL stands for St. Louis

WUSTL. $ and it's a better school than Bklyn/Dozo.

just curious about what you said re: cardozo. no go because the scholarship would depend on gpa and the alleged section stacking issue? or no go because it's that bad. (i'm strongly considering going there)

In your case, you can pick any reason you want for not going to Cardozo. UVA is TCR (or NYU, if you get in). That scholarship might be worth it at Fordham or a T30, but UVA is your best option at this point. No contest.

thanks! unfortunately, i don't think UVA is a realistic option at this point because my husband doesn't want to relocate and doesn't think he can find a good job (in finance) in charlottesville. i wouldn't be considering cardozo so seriously if my scholarship had any GPA stipulations, but since it's guaranteed full tuition, i think i might end up there. at least i'd give my spot at UVA to someone who really wants to go there...i'm trying to make myself feel better .

Your reasons are the only thing that could cause me to make that choice in your situation, so that makes it much more understandable. Plus full, guaranteed tuition carries essentially 0 risk! Here's hoping NYU likes your app anyway

Full tuition free ride at Cardozo is fine; I would go. You most likely won't get a great or well-paying job but that's not a problem if you have no debt. Not a bad situation IMO.

thanks ...i imagine you feel the same way about the prospect of turning down WashU. it sucks! i hope you get some good news from Fordham soon, and that it makes it easier to decide!

I voted for dozo, because you want to work in NYC. A top 50 school is certainly not worthless, especially with the decent scholly they offered you.

I got the same amount of money from Brooklyn as Cardozo (37kish) so Brooklyn is out.
