Cooley Law School Stadium

So the local news just broke a story I thought some of you would enjoy.
There's a minor league baseball team that plays down the road at Oldsmobile Park. Well, GM decided not to renew their naming rights and so the stadium's name was left up for grabs. So as of tomorrow, Oldsmobile Park will be called
cooley law school Stadium.
I guess that's just another way to get your name out there/might help some people choose where to obtain their legal eduction. After all, their school now has a stadium named after them.

It's a smart move. Not only do you get name recognition but finally a classroom big enough to comfortable hold a 5000 student Contracts class, for maximum profitability.

At least you'll be able to purchase hot dogs and big gulps while the prof is lecturing about the UCC.

This reminds me of when Ameriquest Mortgage briefly sponsored Texas Ranger's ball park before the unfortunate realization spread throughout the world that they were one of the most corrupt sub-prime predatory lenders in the universe. LOL.

Hey, not everyone can be a rich snob with the ability to get a box seat at Fenway Park or Yankee Stadium, but they deserve to watch live baseball too. You're just dumping on Cooley Stadium b/c it doesn't fit your shallow USNEWS definition of a "Top Baseball Stadium". I know for a fact that Cooley Stadium has more urinals per spectator and more square footage of concessions than Fenway Park, so it's obviously a superior facility.

They'll turn it into their library. Adding that much library seating should allow them to leapfrog Yale, Columbia, and Northwestern, right into the 7 spot.

When will Cooley realize that the absurd "rankings" they release each year only hurts their reputation (and the employment prospects of their students)? The description of their methodology reads like something from The Onion. No wonder the school is a practically a punchline in the legal field.

With 3,600 students at campuses in Lansing, Grand Rapids, Auburn Hills and Ann Arbor, Mich., Cooley is the largest law school in the country and attracts a large number of part-time students. Cooley has been expanding steadily, but just keeping the student body at its present level requires getting its name out into the public, LeDuc said.
In addition to raising Cooley's profile, the arrangement creates opportunities for the school to use the stadium, located just four blocks from its flagship Lansing campus, to host events for students and alumni and maybe even for law firm recruiting and fundraisers. Reaction has largely been positive thus far, although some critics have questioned whether the money would be better spent on other projects, LeDuc said. The money boils down to about $135,000 a year.

Sometimes I wonder if the Cooley rankings are actually kind of genius.
I mean, what better way to undermine the credibility of rankings than to produce a ranking based on objective factors that places Thomas M. Cooley at #16?

It's all about marketing. I've seen law schools market themselves using Leiter's rankings.

I just checked the Cooley rankings for the first time today... the school actually went up to #12 from #16 (in 2008 ranking vs. the 2007 ranking). They rank themselves way higher than Berkeley, UChicago, and Cornell... I can see arguing for or creating an alternative ranking scheme, but better judgment is insulted when that scheme just so happens to put the school involved in creating the new rankings ridiculously higher than it is otherwise considered to place. After looking at the rankings I am coming to understand why Cooley gets so much ridicule... it's just not right IMO to pick criteria for ranking that apparently work disproportionately in (Cooley's) favor even if the current USNews ranking system needs to be revised...
