Re: Toledo Law
It's a different law school experience than many places - the classes are small and the faculty are very involved with you. There are no sections. I've enjoyed my time there, have done well in school, and have put myself in position to succeed. But budget cuts and the departure of Phil Closius for Maryland-Baltimore have combined to knock the school out of the top 100 and it probably won't be back any time soon.
If you're set on doing firm law in Detroit, Wayne is probably a better choice. There are simply more Detroit firms that interview at Wayne. Toledo and Michigan State are probably similar options from that perspective. UT is completely wired into the Northwest corner of Ohio - in the area it sometimes seems like every single lawyer in public practice and two out of three lawyers in private practice are UT grads.
If you want to do public sector law, it's a great option because tuition is dirt cheap and they're very generous with scholarship money.
Hope that helps. Feel free to send any other questions my way via PM.

Re: Toledo Law
I went to the law school for some undergrad law program about 5 years ago and I liked the facilities. What was your impression of the school?

Re: Toledo Law
I just took a look at the school on Friday. The school seemed ok, the admissions woman was really nice, but the surrounding area wasn't my cup of tea. I put my deposit down but will most likely be withdrawing. Tony Packos was good though.

Re: Toledo Law
I thought the campus and facilities were great. However, as the previous post suggests, the surrounding area is less than ideal. However, housing is cheap (the lady told me on average 425 for a 1 bed 1 bath), and I reckon I will be in the library most of the time, so the surroundings don't really bother me. I also plan on practicing in Detroit, and I was told that the school had an 86% bar passage rate in Michigan (better than U of M), which I found very intriguing (the two top graduates from last year are working big-law in Detroit). I will be sending in my deposit in the next couple days (which is only 75 dollars), and visiting Wayne State, which I am still on the deferred list. I did my undergrad at MSU, so I love learning in a campus atmosphere, which UT possesses. Furthermore, I will be receiving in-state tuition since I live in one of the counties in Michigan that UT awards in-state too. All in all, I think it is a great option for what I am looking for, which is a solid legal education at a competitive price. If anyone has any other questions about my visit, feel free to PM me.

I put my deposit down at UT as well. I really enjoyed the law day that I spent there. I'm glad to see other people on this forum are going as well! I'm from the Toledo area originally (A suburb) so if you want information on the area, I may be able to help!

I went to Toledo for an MA and thought the city was a wonderful place to live. However there are limited employment opportunities because of the industrial exodus that is hitting the entire midwest.
It may not be as exciting for some people, so you may consider working somewhere else.

Accepted on Monday. Has anyone put down a deposit yet? I'm on a lot of waitlists but as of right now, it looks like I'm going to deposit at Toledo.
Edit: Also, is there a Facebook group yet for the c/o 2013?

Re: Toledo Law
I sent my deposit in a few weeks ago after I visited the school. One professor came up to me just to say hi and I really liked that. I am currently looking to live downtown for I feel that would be best place after reading many different views on west toledo and other possible areas. Can't wait! I too went to MSU undergrad and will receive in-state tuition, one of the reasons I chose Toledo.

Slugger, thats awesome that you'll be receiving in-state. I withdrew my other acceptances. Assuming I don't hear anything great from my pending apps & waitlists, it looks like I'll be heading to Toledo. I will deposit this week.
As for a living situation, I'm quite interested in living within walking distance to the law school.

Re: Toledo Law
It looks like the GPA needed to keep a scholarship there is 3.3. Anyone have any idea how the curve is set? Is 3.3 top 10% of the class?

Re: Toledo Law
I think the curve was a 2.9 this year. Not going to lie...it isn't easy, although that depends on the Professors you have. I am just finishing up my first year so if you guys have any questions about anything, feel free to PM me.
For the person that wants to live within walking distance...I wouldn't do it. The areas around campus are really not great. You are far better living 3-4 miles west of campus.

Really? Thanks for letting me know. Do you have any suggestions of where to live? I haven't had the chance to explore the area too much yet because I'm from NY and work full time.findlayswimmer28 wrote:For the person that wants to live within walking distance...I wouldn't do it. Re: Toledo Law
If you go west of campus down either Dorr St. or Bancroft, you will encounter a ton of apartment complexes. Once you get past Reynolds Rd. down either of those streets, the apartment options get substantially better. Another option is downtown. I have a lot of friends that live downtown and they really like it. Only problem is that when the Mudhens are playing, the fireworks can be a little obnoxious. Benefit to living downtown is that if you get a summer job in the area, it will likely be down there so you won't have to worry about parking.
Places to avoid at all costs would be Kenwood Gardens and anything east of campus, except downtown.
You will have time during orientation week to find a place. Also, the law school does a summer picnic/BBQ and there will be apartment reps there.
Good luck and if you have any other questions, feel free to PM me.

Hey Slugger. I went to MSU, as well, and will be attending. The in-state was definitely a selling point for me.

Acash, I would look into somewhere on the bike trail, it runs from Sylvania, through ottawa hills, and to UT. There are lots of places to live in there!

Anyone have any thoughts on University Park? It is close to campus, I see. I would prefer to walk to class if possible.

Re: Toledo Law
I really don't know where to live. A lot of people are saying downtown is best. I've been looking around city-data.com's Toledo blogs to get ideas. I thought maybe some of you would find the forum helpful, as I have. http://www.city-data.com/forum/toledo/6 ... all-2.html
I'm hesitant to live too far from campus because I literally know no one in the entire area. :-/

The best places to live are going to be about 2-5 miles west of campus down either Dorr Street or Bancroft. Other than that, there are a lot of people that live downtown and love it.
