Movement in Rank and Choosing a Law School

Postby traehekat » Wed Feb 03, 2010 4:14 am

There is a similar thread going, but I figured I would go ahead and make this anyway.

My question is would any of you ever choose one school in the T20 to T35 range over another school in the T20 to T35 range because it is 5 to 10 ranks higher? My thought used to be that rank was very important, and while I still believe it is fairly important, I now know rankings fluctuate quite a bit in this range. You could easily attend one school over another because it is ranked higher only to find the school you chose to be ranked lower than the one you withdrew from when the new rankings are published.

I feel I may already know the simple answer to this one, which is every school in this range is pretty regional anyway, so you should just choose the school in the region you want to work in and forget about rank (unless you are choosing between two schools in the same region, in which case if all things are equal take the higher ranked of the two).

And maybe look at the employment stats.
