This geographical distribution of graduates is very similar to BU/ND. This doesn't help the idea that T17 is "considerably" better than BU/ND, etc. They seem to have the same mobility, same firm prospects. I concede that clerking is easier out of Vand/UT, but they also have less competition in their area. BU/BC gets trounced by Harvard/Yale/Cornell, etc. because clerking in the MA/NY region is ridiculously competitive.holydonkey wrote:Class of 2009 Employment at Graduation by GeographyDesert Fox wrote:25% of the US that has no large legal markets.holydonkey wrote:

It sucks that the 40% of Vandy's class that work in the Northeast and West have no access to large legal markets.

Some of it is the top of the class that is nationally mobile but most of that is people slinking back home after failing to get big law.holydonkey wrote:Class of 2009 Employment at Graduation by GeographyDesert Fox wrote:25% of the US that has no large legal markets.holydonkey wrote:

Don't worry, I won't be slinking back home after I fail to get big law because I'm already going to be home. But I'll still be working shit law.holydonkey wrote:Dude, I think the NU acceptance has gone to your head. Me too. This is only a teensy bit of anecdotal evidence, but I worked at a very highly ranked DC firm this summer, and my class had an equivalent number of GW and G students (actually one more GW). My impression is that G and GW are roughly equal in employers' eyes.tamlyric wrote:I would vote for GW in this case. Fwiw.doopwooper wrote:How about GW with $105,000, vs Georgetown at sticker? Well I just found out I got into UVA, no scholarships. Now compared to GWU with the $105,500, what would you chose?

Yeah, something about moving to mid-Virginia though just really puts me off. I'm really happy I got in, it's just not some place I can see myself moving. It's 100 miles from DC, and I was concerned that DC would not be lively enough.. hah.
UVA is such a good school. I wouldn't want to be stupid and base my decision off of location alone, but I also want to make sure that it is still the more rational decision even if my debt will be more than twice as much.

It really depends...I was thinking of whether to choose GULC sticker vs Boston $$ but it was an easy choice for Boston. But then again, I don't want to take out $200,000 in debt. Good luck in whatever you decide...

Is there a big difference, say between BU $$$ and Cornell/GULC sticker?

For me, I would take the bottom T-14 at sticker over T-20 with significant money with the exceptions of UT, UCLA, USC, and Vandy. Under no circumstances would I be willing to touch WUSTL if admitted to a T-14 and would only consider attending Minnesota if I wanted to practice regionally.

Erm. Aren't TX and UCLA pretty regional too? Precisely! Also, the undergrads are much less bundled up for most of the year!

Which T-25? Also, if you have $$$ at a T-25, you are likely to pull some money out of Vandy.JOThompson wrote:Vandy or T25 with $$$?

Iowa $$$ or half tuition at Minnesota. I was lucky to get those offers based on my middling LSAT, and I'm on the Vandy waitlist now, so I don't know if they'll give me any merit aid. I'm just trying to decide if I should play the WL game there
