Yea I agree. But in terms of the 2011 rankings, that data is way up compared to recent years.keep in mind that LSN data doesn't yet indicate where most of this year's applicants will be matriculating. Just because they have been pretty selective this year doesn't mean their numbers will improve (I'm not saying they won't, I'm just saying you shouldn't jump the gun).

I'm curious as to why everyone thinks Indiana will fall so much. I'll admit that it is overranked but I don't see why it won't continue to be overranked.

Economy.
Schools like BC/BU/Fordham, that are in markets that can still more or less guarantee 100k+ salaries will hold their rank. Schools like Iowa, UIUC, Indiana that can't will fall.

If you think UTexas will end up in the T14, how long do you think it will take for the national school sticker to be placed on them? I know they already have quasi-national placement, but I'd like to think three years of a T14 acknowledgment, as it gives time for employers to really consider it in the current tier with DNCG (plus employers are the ones that matter, right? ).

GWU is a T-20 school, on par with BU and UMinn, they just got boned by the new part-time rankings, and they nearly cut the program in half to compensate for it. GWU will be at least 23. Irvine will bump W&L Alabama and UNC back. If UCLA were ever to become 14, this would be the year with the statistic hit GULC took from the same PT thing that wrecked gwu. WUSTL will drop back about 2, and BC will move up to 23/24. ND will move up 1 spot.
Fordham did nothing to game the rankings. I hope we won't be punished for it.

Re: Top15-30 2011 US News Predicitons
I agree that GWU is a top-20 school, but it will take some time to make the way back up. GWU has to be very careful about rejecting people it would normally accept. People will just say they are gaming the rankings the other way. They can't win. So the only thing they can do is try to woo some top students with extra money while turning down a few students (not a ton) who, in previous years, would have gotten in.timertimer61 wrote:i know that the p/t program is still at 160, but i was under the impression that fordham went on a WL frenzy with very qualified people...seems like they upped their gpa/lsat, no?OperaSoprano wrote:Wait, can they rank Irvine before the school finishes provisional accreditation? OSU has been ranked equal to or above Wisconsin before, and IUB is just overranked, plain and simple. I put IUB at about 35-40. Iowa's stock is going down; I'd say it's about 30-34. There's nothing odd about my rankings at all. And UW-Seattle is a top 30-34 school also.

OSU has been ranked above Wisconsin for quite some time, and IU is just overranked, plain and simple. Iowa's stock is going down.
2. not enough for OSU to pass it up
3. same as 2
This isn't Big Ten football we're talking about here.

Corrected the statement on OSU and Wisconsin. But OSU doesn't need to "pass it up". It has been equal to or higher in rank in recent years.Halibut6 wrote:1. untruePDaddy wrote:Halibut6 wrote:What world are you living in?14) Vanderbilt

IU/IUB is way overranked and was, just two years ago, about #36 or so...where it belonged. You must be a hoosier, or planning to be one. I personally feel that OSU and Wisconsin (which has been ranked as high as #23), could both be top-25. Truth be told, #25-50 are all pretty much the same. You need to be top 10-15% to make BigLaw, and the numbers of the competitive students are pretty much the same. Many are very good state schools. There's not a lot of difference between them.
And look at Dood's rankings up above. He has UCLA taking the 14th spot (which is a real possibility) with GWU back as a top-20 school, where many feel it should be (much less a possibility so soon after its massive drop).

You may not think Alabama is a T30 quality school but you'd be an idiot not to think they will be in the T30 at least next year, they know how to play the game (probably T25 actually).

Not true. I've heard a lot of people saying they're starting around 70k. Which is still much better than being jobless, but hell... it isn't 100k.Cupidity wrote:Economy.

Wisconsin bumped up both medians last year, i wouldn't be surprised if they claw their way back into the T30.

Thing is... every school upped their medians. So I don't think it'll help all that much.Panther7 wrote:Wisconsin bumped up both medians last year, i wouldn't be surprised if they claw their way back into the T30.

I'm curious as to why some people ITT see Texas falling below Vandy and/or UCLA. I think they all kept the same LSAT median as the prior year and UT raised their GPA by something crazy like .8. Are expenditures or reputation rankings really going to change that much between these 3 in one year?
