i think every T14 has a JD/MBA program. they are a good idea for someone that wants to secure the chance to leave law at some point in the future, or maybe even start a business career right out of school. A JD/MBA is clearly not interested in becoming a law professor or SCOTUS so you should be careful how you brand yourself based on your career goals.

Law firms also realize all of this....the lower you go in the rankings, the more a JD/MBA can be held against you. For example, a JD/MBA from Stanford can probably still land biglaw but the same might not be true for Georgetown. Outside the T14 a JD/MBA could be a very bad idea.

The 3-year JD/MBA programs are particularly appealing. You can do that at Northwestern, Penn, and Yale I believe.

At Penn or Northwestern, it can be a fantastic idea because the MBA will substantially "upgrade" your law degree. In fact, the Wharton MBA program does not like Penn Law students trying to leverage the law degree into a backdoor acceptance because they realize this fact.

At other schools, it will either be neutral, a slight boost, or could even water down your JD degree.

I would add Chicago and Harvard to this list since both of their B-schools are ranked #1 in some rankings... don't think an MBA from either one of these will 'water you down'

well i would say chicago/harvard mba would be a reasonable boost, but it won't be the large boost of kellogg/penn. this is mostly because the jd programs at those schools are also at the top. Still worth it in my opinion.

Chicago Booth at #1 (businessweek) doesn't really make any sense. Most people would say HWS are in a league of their own, much like HYS in the legal world.
