Drexel or Chicago Kent

Post by ruthtisdale » Thu Jan 21, 2010 11:58 am

I don't post on here very much. But I was wondering if anyone could tell me if they would choose Drexel or Chicago Kent? Im in with money for both. I like both Chicago and Philly. Which one would give me a better leg up as far as getting a good job after graduation?

I don't know much about the Chicago market because I have no desire to go there, but in terms of the Philly market it's pretty saturated already. Temple alums pretty much run the city area, and some Penn grads stay around too. On top of that, you have Villanova and Rutgers-Camden competing for work as well. Drexel is so new that it only has one graduating class for an alumni base, whereas Chicago Kent probably has a better alumni network.

Drexel has the co-op, but students rarely get job offers from them (source: Drexel Law Q&A).

Definitely Kent. It is not only a much stronger school than Drexel, but it is also a lot stronger in Chicago than Drexel is in the Philly market. Especially if you have no preference for which market you want to practice in (Chicago v. Philly), Kent is a no-brainer, but even for Philly, I think Kent is the better choice. I know of some people who did summer internships in Philly from Kent, so Philly is possible from Kent and employers will recognize its quality over Drexel, even in Philly. If you're wondering which will give you a leg up as far as employment, Kent without a doubt. In the end, again, Kent overall is a much better school so this is a clear, easy choice.
