Postponing application

Postby lawuntoherself » Wed Jan 13, 2010 12:03 pm

i took the LSAT in sept 2009. Due to personal reasons i will not be able to apply for the Fall 2010 session. I am planning to retake in june 2010 and apply either for spring 2011 or fall of 2011.

a) Would this gap reflect badly on my application?
b) Should i write an addendum for the gap in my PS
c) My LORS have already come in. Will I need to get new LORS?

You won't need new LORs since they aren't many years old, if you already applied and withdrew from a school I personally would put an addendum on it just to anticipate the question they will no doubt be thinking. No, I do not think it will reflect poorly, there are multiple people on this board who deferred their admission for a year. I am no expert and these are my uninformed opinions.

I am assuming you are a senior in undergrad correct?

1) Depends. From what I have heard, schools don't mind seeing a gap as long as you actually fill it with something (work, perhaps travel, etc.). If you sit around and do nothing but study for the LSAT, they may not love that. Even so, I don't think it is a HUGE deal if you kinda slack off for a year.
2) No, I don't think an addendum is necessary. Just include on your resume any work you do.
3) I would check with each school you apply to, but I am pretty sure you won't need new LORs.
