You should have timed this a little bit better. When it's getting down to the 30's across the south, that doesn't exactly help your point :)

Tru lol. But the south will rebound. It will always be freezing in the midwest.

Yep. I should dig out the link to those pictures someone posted a few weeks back when they visited UVA and it was covered in snow.

Although generally speaking, OP, I do agree with you. Won't stop me from going to Mich, but I'm pretty sure I'm crazy for that.

People aren't pricks (like in NY...where I'm from).
Property is relatively inexpensive.
Great natural environment for the outdoorsy folks.
Sunnier winters (for those used to the Eastern Great Lakes).
Good state universities.
Less classism, from what I've seen.
There's more, but I'm eating breakfast so I'm done.

+1 on all counts. I'm in Florida right now, but I want to move back for the exact reasons you mentioned. People up there don't realize how brutal the summers are here. It's like living in humidity hell for 4 months, and if you don't have time to go to the beach, there's no relief. I'd say a Central Florida summer is a wash with a Wisconsin winter. I also just feel like people that have the best character come from the Midwest. All my friends except for two down here are also transplants from the region. I'm probably biased, though.
