UMich Library 8- midnight, reading room 8- 2 am. I may disagree with the whole 24 hour thing just because I don't think there would be enough students in there after 2 to justify the extra cost in utilities.

How dare you come with such a reasoned and well thought out response? I guess that is true; most of the schools have some sort of area open 24 hours, so I guess that is enough.

But, it does not really seem like the costs associated with making a 24 hour library would be prohibitive. Some of these schools are charging 45k for tuition. It seems like 24 hour library access should be built into that somewhere. When one school is able to do it it is hard to understand why they all can't.

Now I just need a Library Seating Capacity ranking list and my criteria for choosing law schools should be complete.

Given UChicago's reputation, their law library hours are surprisingly prohibitive:

Monday-Thursday: 8:30am-9:00pm
Friday: 8:30am-6:00pm
Saturday: 10:00am-6:00pm
Sunday: 12:00pm-9:00pm

Seating does not seem ideal, either. Per the website, carrels seem to all be assigned to particular people each quarter based on working on law journals, being a research assistant, or students writing papers for seminar classes. If I'm reading it correctly, there are tables and some desks for regular students, but those don't sound like they have padding/are comfortable.

As a former student worker there for four years during college, I can say that on the record, coffee is prohibited in the library, and in particular, the much-photographed reading room. Off the record, however, library staff care much more about keeping undergraduates out after regular hours than about ordering manic, sleep-deprived law students to forgo their caffeine.
I never study in the reading room, but in the carrels, there are signs which state that drinks in covered containers are allowed. No food is allowed, although that never seemed to stop people (yeah, I'm talking to you, crunchy, noisy apple-chomping and yogurt slurping person on the second floor  .)
