congrats to those who've recently been accepted off the waitlist. any pointers for those of us that are still waiting? i've written a LOCI and sent 2 new LORs, but don't know what else to do...any advice would be much appreciated!

I did nothing except indicate via their status checker that I wanted to remain on the waitlist as soon as I found out at the end of April. No LOCI, no additional LORs, no additional visit to campus, no sending positive energy in the general vicinity west of Sacramento. Then Saturday BOOM! I get the big white envelope totally out of the blue, it really threw me for a loop since I wasn't expecting anything at all from them (I had been focusing on getting off the Hastings waitlist, so far to no avail, and if it doesn't come through no big deal anymore since I'm going to one UC or the other at this point.)

I'm all the more surprised because Davis rejected me last year...since then I re-took the LSAT (went from 161 to 165) and crafted a much better PS.

*grabs bottle of champagne to celebrate*

Wow our numbers seem to be all over the place (my numbers in profile). I sent in 1 LOCI mid-Mayish... that's about it really. Never visited. I like the fact that Davis had my financial aid package completed upon acceptance so it's super convenient!

Is it true that the deposit deadline is tomorrow and then the next round of waitlist people could possibly be notified soon after that?

I believe the deadline is today. Last time I spoke with admissions, they said that there is definite movement on the list and in the past have taken people all the way into August.

Also a side note, my personal feeling after speaking with admissions is they are the type of office that does not like pestering or frequent "updates". So the daily barrage of phone calls or frequent LOCI will prob not do you much good. I am still not sure hwo they are selecting from the WL whether its numbers, specifics softs or if they just like some applications.

I don't know what they look for either, but from what I have gathered from this thread and LSN, the first round up off the waitlist in late May was all the high LSATs (161-167's), this last round up was the remaining high LSAT scores and/or the students coming from top universities (like Berkeley and UCLA).

I predict the few that are chosen from here on out (I estimate 3-4 possibly) will likely be those with the next best numbers and schools.

Can we share our numbers? Maybe that will help us figure out how competitive we are (although I have almost completely lost hope at this point).

I'm 160 with a 3.45

I am a non trad with a 160 and sub 3.0 GPA, but I have a lot of Work experience, master degree and other solid softs. I have done 2 LOCI and a visit and was basically told in a very polite and courteous way that nothing else would be needed from me and that I should just continue to wait.

Fomr LSN data and the information I have peiced together there should be one more round of WL movement early July and then only 1-2 people added in August if any at all.

Yep, I just heard that too. I think their class goal was somewhere around 200 and they ended up taking tons of extra students off the waitlist after the second deposit hoping to get to 200 or a little over. Unfortunately, way too many people accepted. Now they are just waiting for people to drop out to make it to 200 and hoping they are done forming the class. :(

there is an updated intro message on the status checker. It does not say anything in regards to the WL however.

from the status checker:

Quote:
STATUS CHECK
From the Assistant Dean for Admission

July 8, 2009

As August draws near, you should be making final preparation for enrollment. We have received a lot of housing posts and we are beginning to see those from students who have secured housing and are seeking roommates. We hope the housing and other information available to you at the Admitted Student Website proves helpful.

Transfer and Non-Matriculant applicants are now going through the admission process. Evaluation has begun and we plan to put some decisions in the mail very soon. Remember that decisions are also posted at the Status Check website on the same date the letter is mailed. For those of you planning to "write-on" to Law Review, we are fast-tracking your application in order to provide you a decision as soon as possible. We can only do that is your application is complete.

All admitted students should continue to monitor the Documents Received section of the status check site. Information about whether we have received your official transcript showing receipt of a bachelor's degree will be indicated there. That section will also inform you if we have received a certificate of completion while your school is posting degrees on transcripts. This applies to 1L admits and transfers. Everyone must provide an official transcript with degree posted in order clear all requirements for registration. If you foresee any problem in doing this by August 1, contact us immediately.

If you have not submitted the Statement of Legal Residence, please do so as soon as possible. Although the Law School Admission Office does not process those forms, it is critical that you submit them to the Campus Residence Deputy so that your status for tuition and fee purposes can be finalized. The Residence Deputy communicates exclusively via ucdavis email accounts. Information to assist you in creating your ucdavis email account is posted at the Admitted Student website.

If any of you have questions between now and enrollment, you should continue to communicate exclusively with the law school Admission Office. The law school registrar's office has no information for you at this time. Everything should be done through the Admission Office or the law school Financial Aid office. Email is the best and most immediate means to contact either office.

We are all looking forward to meeting you in person very shortly. See you soon!

After not picking up their phone ALL week long, the lady at the front desk (who is incredibly rude) confirmed that the class is very full. She basically said there is no hope. I just wish she could have been nicer about it.

The general consensus is that she is mean, don't take it personally.

Le sigh. At least I am happy with my second choice, very little debt and near family is a good thing :)

Hope those that got in enjoy Davis as it is truly a beautiful campus and excellent school. For those who didn't, I hope you stomp the crap out of your 1L and have a wonderful legal career! See ya on the flip side.

+1. I think im throwing in the towel as well. When I started this thread, I was really hopeful. Guess it wasnt in the cards. Oh well... my second choice isnt so bad either plus i dont have to make the big move out of LA. I'm just excited to start school already! Anyway, congrats to those who will be attending Davis in the fall! G'luck to everyone else!

Heh. I am happy I got out of LA. Moved there 5 years ago for a job and wanted to leave the next day :P

In answer to Whome, I went with McGeorge. I got a dean's scholly and my wife got a nice state job 1 mile from campus so everything just kind of fell in place. I passed on a couple higher schools due to the lack of $$ and just the cost of living increase made them unattractive to me.
