I was just accepted here via email tonight, anyone else accepted or considering Kentucky? I don't know too much about the area or the law school but applied because of proximity.

I applied there on a whim (and got in), but now I'm seriously considering it. I've gotten into schools that are ranked quite a bit higher, but for some reason I just like UK. Despite knowing next to nothing about the area, I have sentimental attachment having shown horses for years. What better place for a "horse person" than Lexington, Kentucky?

I was accepted into UK school of law as well. I had the pleasure of participating in two conferences at the law school. I found the facilities to be a bit out-dated, but they are in the process of building a new state of the art law building. However, they do have excellent classrooms. Their moot court room is pretty bad ass as well. They have an excellent faculty that are very supportive of their students. Their alumni base in Kentucky is second to none, and is also very strong in the Cincinnati area as well. The Lexington area is amazing. If your are a conservative, you will love it. If you are a liberal, you will love it. Their is also something to do (bars, clubs, concerts). Lexington is also home to more restaurants per capita than anywhere else in the US. These days, I guess the most imported thing to mention is that you will get a job after you graduate.

I just received a scholarship award around 11k a year that implies I will get the resident tuition rate for all 3 years provided I maintain good academic standing. This puts Kentucky in the running and it looks like I may have to at least make some time to visit the school.

Got accepted last week, still waiting for scholarship.
Lex-Vegas is a pretty cool college town, but i may be biased because a lot of my high school friends attend.

With such a great scholarship I feel like I at least owe it to them to give them a fair shot, so I'll make the drive there sometime in the beginning of March and check out Lexington for a day and the school for another day just to see if I like it there.

Admitted Students Day is March 28th if you didn't already know. I'll probably go to UK if I'm not accepted to UGA.

I'll probably miss that, I'm going to ASD at Tennessee the same weekend. But I'm going to be sure to visit the campus before that.

I was also accepted, and received the 33k scholarship that makes the difference between in-state & out-state tuition. 13k a year, plus 400-650 bucks a month for an apartment is difficult to turn down compared the costs of going elsewhere. As far as I know about the school; facilities are out dated, faculty is great, Lexington is safe/clean, and the overall education has a reputation as being "classical" (which kind of appeals to me).

To be honest though I am a little bit skeptical about the job prospects since it is regarded as a "regional" school. Their own employment statistics show that 85% of graduates end up working in Kentucky (http://www.uky.edu/Law/career_services/ ... stics.html). I'm from NJ, and as a result if I wanna go to this school, it would appear that I would have to consider relocating to Kentucky after graduation. I'm not saying that's bad, its just a very serious consideration that goes well beyond the quality of the education.

I think their job prospects are fine considering they're the best school in Kentucky.

I also received a letter today, which I have only read after I made my last post, talking about their Career Services. They state that in addition to on-campus hiring, UK law participates with the SELPC (Southeastern Law Placement Consortium), the Mid-Atlantic Legal Recruitment Conference in D.C., and is the only law school in the Kentucky/Ohio region that does both of those.

Which makes me wonder the following: is the reason why 85% of UK grads end up staying in Kentucky because 85% of the people attending live in Kentucky or have relatives there? Is there a significant portion of the 85% of UK grads, who end up working in Kentucky, that never set foot in Kentucky before attending the law school?

To answer your question, Kentucky is very much a state of homegrowns. Most of the undergrads I know are from KY and have no intention of leaving the state after graduation. If you are looking to leave this region after graduation, I would want to be towards the top of my class. It's no cakewalk even if you're looking into Cincinnati for employment. That being said, I have a 3L relative that interned in DC, and has a job in a big firm in ATL when he graduates. (I'm not sure where he stands in the class though)

Yeah -- a lot of people go to UK Law because they want to stay in Kentucky. But people go to Cincinnati, Nashville, Louisville, Indianapolis, etc after graduation, too.

I know that I would have absolutely no problem staying in Kentucky. Lexington seems like a very nice area and from what I've seen so far it reminds me of home (NW Georgia).

I'm going to visit next week. I'll try to take some pictures and find a place to post them later on.

Any questions anyone would like me to ask while I'm there? A current student will be giving me a tour and then I'm going to sit in on a class.

See if they have anything like intramural sports for law students. I really like playing a lot of different sports on a friendly level and would love it if I could there.

Ask how much a parking permit is for the nearby parking garage.

Look and see how much grass there is nearby. I really like grass.

Ask what % they expect their tuition to increase by yearly

I think that's all the questions I have. If you can't get any of them asked that's okay but if so I'd be much obliged!

My wife and I decided not to spend the money on a hotel room and instead we're just going to leave early in the morning. It's a little less than a 4 hour drive and the tour isn't until 1:30.

So, if anyone has anything else I'll be leaving in the morning.

I can answer a couple of those. Law students can play intramurals, although it is up to you to get a team together (we played one in football this fall). A park permit in the nearby garage (5 minute walk from LS) is $97 dollars a semester I believe. As far as grass goes, there is some. The building next door has a nice little terraced grassy area that is neat. But that's about it.

Can't help you with any of the others...

I've seen some, the facilities are quite underwhelming.

The campus itself if fairly pretty, but the the Law building leaves a lot to be desired. Sorry I don't have any pics for ya.
