Wow, congrats! Outstanding softs, or anything else you can think of that may have pushed you over the edge?

Thanks!

I don't have great softs -- nothing of the saving babies or rainforests variety, anyway. Just typical college things-- part time job, one ec with minor leadership position, etc.

I think my LORs were amazing. I also like to think my PS was good, but who knows? My 4.0 is the most outstanding factor, really.

That's a great start, but here's possibly a small dose of reality if true:

They don't normally reject off of ED do they? What I'm saying is, they wait list EVERYBODY who isn't admitted correct? Even those that are a definite auto-deny?

Just curious to this myself?

No. People are getting rejected that applied ED. It's on LSN

Okay now I'm curious. UVA with 161 and 4.0, are you instate? Have you held public office? Won a gold medal? Cured a rare form of cancer?

I ask because I'm instate 3.84 from UVA undergrad and I'm retaking the LSAT in December because I landed low-mid 160s in Oct. I'm shooting for 168+ for my retake, but it would be very comforting to know that if I choke a second time on the test that there still might be hope for me. Hope for all of us really, you are an inspiration. Like the Rudy of law school admissions.

To be fair, I'm sure ED helped. Also, if you check LSN, 3.9+ has more leway than even 3.8-3.9 on LSAT in the past years.

All the same, aim high and best of luck!

No, I'm not instate (south carolina), and I certainly haven't cured cancer. I think thesealocust is right -- It all came down to ED. I think maybe in "this economy" they are looking for more sure bets, both in terms of making sure they fill the class and not having to give me any scholorship money

Lizface, if I were you I would send in my ED form if you haven't already (deadline is dec. 15, I think); and if you know for sure you want to go there. Of course, if you do really well on the LSAT in Dec. you might be in a position to get t-5.

Oh, and thanks for the Rudy comparison, lol! I'm still shocked about the whole thing and I'm glad to know that I can bring hope to other people :D

Well it appears that we are in the same boat. Believe it or not but I have the exact same LSAT (161) and the exact same GPA (4.00). I applied Early Decision as an in-state resident and I was accepted yesterday. It looks like UVA will have two Rudy's this time around.

Wow! Congrats! Lucky for us, UVA must really like GPA this year :D

Does anyone know when they tell you which waitlist you are on or how you find out? The waitlist grouping was not specified in my email....

In case not everyone in this thread is on the same page: UVA cares a LOT about early-decision. I know three current 1Ls who got in with 160/161/163 respectively, and all were ED. I also know a 160 and a 162 that has been admitted this cycle. All are out of state.

I think the key is hitting their 75% for GPA, which seems to be 3.85-3.89. At that point, to U.S. news, an LSAT 'below the 25%' could be a little below or a lot below and won't really matter.

I have to agree with this because on LSN there's a white female who got waitlisted with a 155 (can you believe it???) but her GPA is killer 3.96 or something like that. I don't know about her softs or anything but 155 LSAT and waitlisted... that's crazy. Clearly her GPA saved her.

I was just waitlisted in the regular cycle to UVA with an LSAT of 160 and 4.0 GPA. Just wondering how you find out what list you are on as far as priority is concerned and if anyone has some advice, that would be great as well.

Dude relax. If you have a 161 you need at least a 3.8-4.0 GPA.

170 seems to be the magic # with a gpa like yours. Good luck if you decide to retake in december.

I think this is the case for regular apps too (instate). At least that 170 wall on LSN last year.
Unless UVA's medians go up this year again.
