Hi!
what do you think about an European student who graduates from a law school in US and look for a job there?
chances to get a job in international law firms, etc...

is it very difficult as a non-US lawyer graduted from a US law school to get hired in firms dealing with businesses and corporations (maybe international corporations)?

Are you going to be graduating with a JD or with an LLM? What schools are you considering? Where in the US/overseas are you hoping to work?

If you're interested in international business law, I would imagine your sights are probably trained on New York. I don't know if you've already applied to schools or you're just starting to look around or what your numbers are--but Columbia, NYU, Cornell, and Fordham would be great starting points.

With a JD, you certainly won't be at any disadvantage, and I think you'll probably have a slight edge over American students in competing for jobs at international firms.

I've heard firms with international practices look favorably on applicants with significant experience living and working abroad, fluency in other (in-demand) languages, etc.

Sorry I can't be more specific.

well, actually I've already applied as a JD student and got in...
but since my LSAT score didn't go very well (154) I didn't apply to schools like Columbia or Fordham..

So far (I'm still waiting for 3 law schools), I got into New York Law School and, yes, I'd like to work in the international business law field, dealing with US and international firms... (I'm an European whose first language is not English)..

Just curious, where are you from?

If you are otherwise interesting candidate, large international law firms might sponsor you either for H1B visa or green card.

I am from Western Europe... (I am a non-English speaker) and I have the opportunity to practice in my country after being admitted to the Bar in a US state...
I guess it is a "plus" for a US attorney being fluent in another language and being able to practice in another country...

Yes, Alexandria, VA. :) Not Egypt.

But my husband and I had our second date for a week in Estonia. ESTONIA ROCKS. You're from there?

Wow, how funny! Are you still here in Alexandria?

I can only say one word in Estonian... "thank you." But I practiced it (with the unaspirated "t") until my Estonian hosts told me they couldn't hear an accent anymore. :)
