Anyone else use barbri 1L review? I checked it out at the library a couple nights before my civ pro exam because I knew there would be true/false questions on my exam, and I was surprised as to how good it was... It was clean and to the point and everything was correct (unlike Emanuels.. I hate what i've gotten from Emanuels so far for K and Torts). I wish I had known about it sooner because seemed like it was good enough where I could've just used that instead of outlining for Civ Pro (with crossing out some things and adding others). I'm thinking of just buying a copy of that, and saying screw other commercial outlines for all my classes. Is there any flaws with this book? I'm trying to figure out why more people don't use it because it seemed so much better than Emanuel's commercial outlines (there is just too much crap in that book that doesn't relate to your specific book and not enough stuff in there that does)...

I used it only for 1 class so far (contract) and it seemed pretty legit. In fact, it saved me (or I think it did unless my professor had a different view) on a few questions since my professor didn't cover it and totally tested it.

Generally barbri is a kind of last resort for me. It has a good outline, covers everything, and I think it's great for an end of the semester summary in a short time.

The Emmanuel and Gilberts outlines aren't wrong (most of the time), but just don't explain it too well (for some of them). However hornbooks, commercial outlines, and E&E's all combined give a good picture of what the law is, and where everyone stands in believing what it should be.

BarBri = good outline for a fairly general review I think, but only if you know the subject well. This way, you'll understand what views it's taking.

I used it as my "backup outline" in Civ Pro. Basically, if I went - "oh shit, I have no idea what's going on", I could look to a back up and hope they had it.

It was marginally useful at best, but mostly because i had a pretty good outline to start with.

I used their multistate practice questions a little to "review" and it was a terrible way to spend my time. That might say more about the MBE than Barbri, since they're simulating MBE questions. But for criminal law, they'd mix together, really unpredictably, common law principles and modern statutory approaches in questions. They had a lot of questions where there are jurisdictional splits on the issues, and they'd simply go with one approach rather than another (which would be reflected in one of the answer choices) without justification.
