I was reading the Success in Law School article here on TLS and I'm a little confused... are hornbooks specific to the casebooks for your class? Like, are we going to find out what our casebooks are, then we can go out and buy the hornbooks to refer to after classes start? Or are hornbooks just topic-specific like an E&E is (one for Torts, another for K's, Crim Law, etc...)?

But aren't some hornbooks paired to specific casebooks. For example, Dressler's Crim Law Casebook: http://www.lawbooksforless.com/lawbooks ... s_id/92758 and then the hornbook for this: http://www.lawbooksforless.com/lawbooks ... s_id/91988

What's the general opinion of those who have used hornbooks and E&Es, do you use hornbooks specific to your casebook, or are the more popular hornbooks (i.e. La Fave's Crim Law Hornbook) so much better that they are the way to go? Same with regards to commercial outlines, do we go with casebook specific outlines or not?

Thanks for any and all help.
