Is anyone doing this? Also, what is suppose to happen after the interview is over with? Am I just suppose to wait around until they say " hey, we want you" ?

Thanks

They wait until you tell them what school you're going to. Unless it's a T14, you're not getting in. There's more information on BLSD at LSD about it.

Hi cerise,
There are a few of us on this board who will be applying for an SEO internship. If you use the 'forum search' feature, I'm sure you'll find the thread in which we discussed it. Also, as 4Re noted, BLSD has a long thread on the subject. Have you already had your interview? Mine is this Friday. How did yours go?

Mine is a week from Mardi Gras. Let me know how yours go! Good luck to everyone who has one coming up!

Edit: Not everyone is in New Orleans... My interview is Tuesday, Feb. 12 in Houston.

I wish I knew about them only admitting people accepted into T14 schools before buying the plane tickets for the interview. I'm not going to a T14; there's a fair chance I will get into the University of Washington, William & Mary, or Minnesota, which are all good schools, but not T14s. Only T14 I applied to was Columbia, and that was just because they waived my application and I figured what the hell. My LSAT score will in no way make up my GPA (3.14) enough to get accepted into there, though.

So you figure that I probably won't make it into SEO, then? Does anyone know of someone that didn't go to a T14 that got accepted into the SEO program?

I have heard that they Interview around 200 people and about 50 get spots.

Has anyone interviewed for summer 2008? What was your case question like?

In @ Minnesota today. Good chance I'll go there. That's like... T20, lol. Wonder what my chances are for SEO.

i'm headed to one next week. hopefully they are flexible with the start time (the 10 week program really clashes with fun after commencement).

alex is your interview in nyc? if so that location on exchange place is some prime real estate...

btw, g'luck to all!

They are pretty strict with their schedule. It's not just working in a firm but they have classes and stuff for you to go to.

My interview is tomorrow at 3:55 PM in Washington D.C. Getting there requires getting up at 4:00 AM in the morning (to catch a 7AM flight); the entire process is going to cost me several hundred dollars.

Basically my only task for the rest of the night is to prepare for the interview. Has anyone exhaustively perused their website yet? I need to think of some good questions to ask -- frankly, I think the fact that I'm expected to have two questions is really silly and artificial, but when I see a hoop I prefer to jump through it.

thanks 4RE, that link is extremely helpful. i guess memorizing your resume, being prepared to take any "what is your weakness and why" questions, and having old stories of you helping out the community handy are keys to a successful interview.

should be fun to head to nyc next friday, even if i fail miserably i get to have fun! :o

alex: i ran through the website a few times and honestly don't have many questions to ask. the only one i can think of would be:

what percentage of students from this summer program get called back to the same firm after 1L? (implying i hope this really will help me avoid being the half of the class who doesn't get a great summer position after 1L)

I just got back from my interview, but I am not going to post my thoughts and tips right now because I'm absolutely fried. I don't think it would be an exaggeration to say that this week has been one of the busiest of my life. I just walked through the door, but instead of some much needed sleep, I have to go to a 3:30 meeting. So thoughts will come... at some point.

Good luck.

To those who have had internships already: what was it like? What did they ask you? What was the case question?

I interview in NY this weekend

Thanks! That helps a lot. :) I kind of wish they would just not use those tactics and just act friendly, though, sigh.

Anyone else had the interview yet? Was it similar?

I wonder what would happen if you just called them out on the blackberry/laptop thing. Maybe that's what they want you to do; to see if you'll take the initiative. Someone should try it.

Frankly, I was more amused than I was unnerved. I understand that the interviewer is trying to get a sense of how you respond to stress, and that the corporate world is not necessarily the friendliest place... but it struck me as a rather childish maneuver. I always find this type of gamesmanship to be silly and unnecessary. In this case, it also struck be as being counter-productive to SEO's cause. They're interviewing people for internships, -- granted, highly competitive internships -- not jobs. If you want to have a strong program (and here allow a brief moment of immodesty, to serve the purpose of making a broader point), you have to attract talent. To presume that people will get down on their hands and knees and beg for these internships struck me as a miscalculation. Talented people often have a lot of opportunities thrown their way, and I think SEO should be more careful to explain why their program is an opportunity worth working towards.

^

thanks for the summary, alex and it seems counterproductive for seo to allow such an interview set-up. regardless i'll give you all the run down after my friday interview (nyc). i just plan on doing my best, giving brief/yet informative enough responses. considering most of the past interns were from harvard, etc. i stand little chance. :? regardless, let's all have some fun with this!

It was certainly a great experience to cut my teeth on, given (as I mentioned earlier) that it was my first formal job interview. And, as I said, mileage may vary depending on your interviewer's style. Plus, the law firm the interview was held in (Dewey & LeBoeuf) was absolutely gorgeous and extremely impressive.
