+1

I called the finaid office last week, got the answering machine, and left a message. Haven't heard anything.

They're already past the UChicago scholarship deadline... fortunately (I guess?) I decided I wasn't going there, but still. This is kind of ridiculous. :(

I haven't heard anything either at this point, but I sent about two or three e-mails inquiring as to the deadline, so I have faith that one day they'll be returned. :) I was in the last group to get in off of Faculty Com. though, so my stuff was in pretty recently.

It'll still be nice to get this question settled, as it's the last thing I'm waiting on and then cycle over!

I'm waiting... but I kind of figure they just laughed at my lame attempt and never bothered to reply...

I emailed at the start of last week and asked if I would get a response before the deadline for my other scholarship. She said they would try. Given the general lack of response and/or rejections, plus the general pattern of those who have gotten matches, I'm not hopeful.

Matching Scholarship decisions
By KTA | April 27, 2009 at 11:42 am

We know that most of you who applied for Matching Scholarships have quickly approaching deadlines to respond to other school’s offer. For many of you that deadline is this week - April 30th or May 1. We are working very hard to get you a decision before your deadline so that you can make an informed decision. Most decisions will be sent out in the next 2-3 days.

In the world of Matching Scholarships, “No news is good news.” We will tell you if you have been awarded or denied a Match. All decisions are initially sent via email, so be sure to check your inbox as well as your Spam or junkmail folders.

If you are denied a Match, please know that we would still like you to come to Berkeley Law. The Matching Scholarship fund has a finite amount of money to award and a large percentage of our admits apply for consideration. We are faced with some very tough decisions throughout this process and must choose between many different and excellent candidates.

No problem. I get bored at work and stalk the admitted student site periodically.

Yeah, thanks for posting this. I had finally decided to break down and contact them and I'm glad I didn't. Anyone hear yesterday or today?

To whom it may concern:

More about Matching…

By KTA | April 28, 2009 at 12:43 pm

And to those of you that are content to wait beyond April 30th/May 1st:

We have a number of Matching Scholarship offers “out there” that we are waiting to hear back about. These offers were made in April, and most admits have until between April 30th and May 8th to respond to us and either accept or decline the scholarship. We will continue making offers until late May.

Other scholarship offers (non-Matching) continue to go out as we review files and make decisions.

So no matching scholarship for me, which was particularly cold blooded because it is Cinco de Mayo. Hispanics should not send Hispanics bad news on Cinco de Mayo.

At what point do we email them and ask what's up?

I know someone who e-mailed Kristin last week, and she said they should know by this week. You can try that and see what kind of response you get.

My guess is that they are waiting until the deadlines for existing offers are up and will make additional offers based on those responses. Just a guess, though.

Makes sense. According to the admissions blog, the last of the previous set of due dates was May 8, so if they need to make further decisions (instead of having their schollie applicants ranked or something) hearing later this week is logical.

Berkeley's my first choice, but I also have a job opportunity that may be culminating in an offer soon (which I would do instead of law school this year if scholarships doesn't work out). Hoping I hear from Berkeley fairly soon so if I do get offered the job, I can make a decision right away instead of waffling. Uf da.

I totally feel your angst about the Berk, I seriously just want to hear something, even if it's a no. I sent them a few e-mails, and nothing! C'mon guys.

Oh, and totally dumb, but uff da!!! Haven't heard that one in awhile. :) From MN, per chance?

So sorry about that madison, but if it makes you feel any better, it's the same here! Oh well, I was just holding out on them until I could see if I could get anything merit-based. Apparently not. Still, Berkeley and their awesome LRAP here I come.

Denied just now via e-mail.

really, really disappointed. I had a lot of hope for this, especially after one deadline after another passed and I still had yet to hear anything. I am also quite frustrated that it took more than seven weeks to render this very important decision, during which time every other deposit deadline passed, including that at my matching school. nothing can be done about it now, of course, but I'm still upset. I recieved zero other aid from Berkeley and thought that would be something they would consider. my career goals are primarily public interest, and I've made that really clear in all of my submissions. I am wondering if it might be worth it to get in touch with the financial aid office and ask them if there's any possible way they could offer me any sort of assistance, no matter how small. I suppose I can just console myself with the knowledge that they'll just end up eating the cost anyway since I plan on taking full advantage of their LRAP...ha.

:( :( :(

Ditto. I'm in the exact same position. Except I plan to get a joint degree with Public Policy so I am looking at over $200K in debt. Oh well, I made this bed by turning down some amazing $$ offers at other schools, and now I have to lie in it.

I think we need to do what any good group of disaffected college students does these days and start a Facebook group. Maybe call it

Denied matching funds from Boalt, praying LRAP has money when we graduate

Finally got email access; didn't get it either. Also didn't get the job. Sigh.

Not sure what I'm going to do now.
